"Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party"s Assam unit has called for an urgent investigation by central agencies into alleged links between Assam Pradesh Congress President and MP Gaurav Gogoi and Pakistan, framing the issue as a matter of national security rather than partisan politics.Advertisment Assam BJP President and Darrang–Udalguri MP Dilip Saikia urged the Central Government to intervene without delay, citing what he described as extensive documentary evidence contained in a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report released by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 8. “Every fact and assertion in the SIT report is backed by hundred-percent documentary evidence. Under no circumstances can Gaurav Gogoi evade answering these grave questions,” Saikia said in a press communiqué issued from the party headquarters. He demanded that Gogoi clarify the purpose of his visits to Pakistan and disclose the individuals he met there. “Why did he travel to Pakistan, and whom did he meet there? These are questions he must answer clearly and unambiguously to the people of Assam,” he said. Saikia stressed that the controversy transcends political rivalry, asserting that it concerns a public representative"s responsibility towards the nation. “This is not about partisan politics. This is about a politician"s moral duty towards the motherland and India"s national security,” he said, adding that any clandestine engagement with a hostile nation must be thoroughly investigated and, if proven, punished under the law. He further alleged that the Congress party"s political language and actions have historically aligned with Pakistan"s narratives on security issues. Saikia claimed that statements by Congress leaders often receive prominent coverage in Pakistani media and are amplified by Pakistan-based social media accounts, alleging that Congress rhetoric has functioned as a complement to Pakistan"s terror ecosystem. Referring to the SIT report, Saikia questioned the circumstances under which Gogoi"s wife allegedly received high-level hospitality from Pakistan"s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “At a time when visas for Indian sportspersons and journalists were being severely restricted, why was a red carpet rolled out for Gaurav Gogoi? Every citizen has the right to know,” he said. He also made remarks linking Gogoi"s family citizenship issues to identity politics in Assam, alleging that the Congress leader"s political positions reflect appeasement politics that threaten Assamese identity and social cohesion. Concluding his statement, Saikia framed the controversy as part of a broader ideological battle. “Our struggle is not merely against an individual named Gaurav Gogoi. It is against the Congress party"s anti-national and anti-indigenous ideology. After the SIT report exposed Gogoi"s secret dealings with Pakistan, the people of Assam are outraged and anguished,” he said.
