Akhil Gogoi Dares Assam BJP Chief Dilip Saikia to Swear Oath at Kamakhya Temple Over Voter Manipulation Row

In an escalation of political tensions ahead of Assam's Assembly elections, Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi has challenged state BJP president Dilip Saikia to accompany him to the Kamakhya Temple and swear that allegations of voter list tampering are false.

Gogoi accused Saikia of discussing the deletion of around 10,000 voter names—specifically those who did not support the BJP—during a video conference on January 4 with party MLAs and district presidents. He claimed the meeting, initially focused on a wall-writing campaign, shifted to strategies for manipulating electoral rolls during the ongoing special intensive revision process.

"Dilip Saikia allegedly instructed participants to submit booth-wise lists of non-BJP voters by January 12 for deletion," Gogoi stated in a press conference, adding that Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal was tasked with overseeing "voter list corrections" in 60 constituencies in a secretive manner.

Urging transparency, Gogoi dared the BJP to release the full video recording of the conference. "If Saikia has the courage, let him come with me to Kamakhya Temple and swear before the goddess that my claims are lies," he asserted, invoking the revered shrine to underscore the gravity of his accusations.

The Sivasagar MLA announced that his party would submit a memorandum to the Election Commission of India today, demanding the seizure of the video and an investigation into the alleged plot. Should the commission fail to act, Gogoi warned, they would approach the courts for justice.
