In a major crackdown on corruption, the CM Vigilance team has arrested Bhupen Das, the BDO of Jaleswar Development Block in Goalpara district, Assam, for accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000. Das was caught red-handed at his rented house in Lakshipur on Thursday.

According to reports, Das demanded the bribe from contractor Sultan Mahmud for clearing the bill of a model Anganwadi center's construction work. The CM Vigilance team conducted a raid at Das's residence and arrested him.

The team also seized documents from the Jaleswar Development Block office as part of the ongoing investigation. This is not the first time Das has been accused of corruption, and the CM Vigilance team is continuing its probe.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among the people of Jaleswar, who are demanding strict action against the corrupt official.
