Responding to pointed questions from the Opposition during the first day of the Winter Session, the Chief Minister said:

- Zubeen Garg was murdered in Singapore; one person directly carried out the killing while several others assisted.
- Five accused individuals are already in judicial custody and have been charged with murder.
- A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is actively probing the case.

When asked by Opposition members how the government concluded it was murder rather than natural death or suicide, Dr Sarma asserted that forensic and circumstantial evidence collected from Singapore authorities left no doubt about the criminal nature of the death.

“The killers of Zubeen Garg will not escape justice, even if he is murdered a hundred times,” the Chief Minister declared amid the thumping of desks by ruling party MLAs.

The disclosure triggered uproar in the House, with several legislators demanding a detailed statement and timeline of the investigation. The Opposition accused the government of withholding information from the public for several days.

Zubeen Garg’s death had earlier been shrouded in mystery, leading to widespread public grief and anger across Assam.
