Assam: Heroin worth Rs 25 Lakh seized in anti-Drug operation in Barpeta

In a significant breakthrough, the Barpeta District Police have successfully conducted an anti-drug operation, seizing a large quantity of suspected heroin in the Tarabari area. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Barpeta District Police Superintendent Sushant Biswa Sharma.

According to reports, the Tarabari police, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Bidyut Bikash Bora Bhuyan and SDPO Jitesh Barman, received a tip-off about the presence of drugs in the area. Based on this information, Officer-in-Charge of Tarabari Police Station Sanjay Kumar Roy, along with Majdia police, conducted a search operation in Majdia.

During the operation, a notorious drug trafficker attempted to evade arrest by speeding away from Majdia towards a nearby village. However, the trafficker abandoned the Alto vehicle (AS01GE3969) used for drug trafficking in Gadeshali Pam under Sarthebari police station and fled the scene.

The Tarabari police seized the vehicle and recovered 11 soap boxes containing suspected heroin. The seizure was made in the presence of SDPO Jitesh Barman, Circle Officer and Executive Magistrate Minakshi Barman, and transport department officials.
The seized suspected heroin weighs 123.85 grams and is valued at approximately Rs 25 lakhs. The police are currently investigating the matter and trying to identify the trafficker.

The police have assured that they will continue to intensify their efforts to rid the district of drugs and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
