Assam: Jail inmate, superintendent 'molest' warden in Dhubri, investigation underway

An ongoing investigation is probing allegations of sexual harassment of a Jail warden by a prisoner and the jail superintendent at Dhubri District Jail. The case, which sent shockwaves throughout the state, has seen significant developments in recent days.

According to reports, the incident occurred in November 2024, when the victim warden was allegedly subjected to repeated instances of sexual harassment by then District Jail Superintendent Prashant Rajbangshi and a prisoner, who was reportedly aided by another warden's husband. The victim warden filed a complaint at Dhubri Sadar Police Station, prompting a thorough investigation into the matter.

Following the complaint, Prashant Rajbangshi was transferred as a punitive measure. Subsequently, on September 1, he was suspended from his position pending further investigation.

In a crucial development, the investigating officer visited Dhubri District Jail today to record the statement of the victim warden. The DIG of Rangia Division has taken charge of the investigation, ensuring a thorough probe into the allegations.

After recording her statement, the victim warden expressed hope that justice would be served and appealed to the Chief Minister to impose the maximum punishment on the accused.

It's worth noting that the victim warden was transferred to Nalbari after the incident. However, she reportedly felt fearful when entering Dhubri District Jail today, citing concerns about encountering notorious prisoner Mozibur Rahman.

The investigation is ongoing, and the case has highlighted the need for ensuring the safety and security of prison staff and inmates alike.
