Assam: Man sentenced to death in Barpeta for killing wife and daughter

In a landmark judgment, the Barpeta District and Sessions Judge Court, presided over by Judge Deepak Thakuria, has sentenced Rishabh Das to death for the brutal murder of his wife and daughter. The verdict marks a significant milestone in the judicial history of Barpeta.

According to the case details, Rishabh Das committed the heinous crime on October 13, 2023, in Gandhi Nagar, Barpeta, where he brutally axed his wife, Binita Das, and their daughter, Hiya Das, a higher secondary student. The Barpeta police swiftly apprehended the accused on the same day.

This wasn't Rishabh Das's first instance of violence, as he had previously attacked his sister with a machete, resulting in severe injuries, including severed fingers. The court took note of his violent past while delivering the verdict.
