Assam: Massive Explosion at ONGC Rig in Sivasagar’s Namati, Gas Leak Triggers Panic

Guwahati: A major explosion was reported at an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) drilling rig in the Namati area of Assam’s Sivasagar district on Wednesday, creating panic among residents.

According to preliminary information, the blast occurred at Rig No. 33 a short while before the report. Soon after the explosion, continuous gas leakage was observed from the rig, raising serious safety concerns in the surrounding area.

The affected rig is located at Namati, where the situation remains tense. The explosion and the subsequent gas emission have led to fear and uncertainty among people living nearby.

Reportedly, senior ONGC officials rushed to the spot immediately after the incident to assess the situation and oversee containment measures. Emergency protocols have reportedly been activated, though official confirmation on casualties or damage is awaited.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as efforts continue to control the gas leak and ensure the safety of personnel and residents.
