Assam: Poacher killed in shootout with forest guards in Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park's Burapahar forest range witnessed a fierce encounter between forest guards and poachers in the early hours of the morning. A poacher was killed in the shootout, which took place between 2:50 am and 3:30 am in the Maitatapu area.

A major operation against poachers in Kaziranga National Park's Burapahar forest range resulted in a shootout, leaving one poacher dead. The incident occurred between 2:50 am and 3:30 am in the Maitatapu area.

According to reports, a group of 3-4 poachers had entered the park with the intention of killing rhinos, allegedly using the Brahmaputra River route. Forest guards intercepted the group, leading to an exchange of fire. One poacher was killed in the encounter.

The guards recovered a 303 rifle and a bag from the scene, which were allegedly being used by the poacher. The identity of the deceased individual has not been confirmed yet.

A team led by Nagaon Police Superintendent Swapnil Deka, Kaliabor SDPO Bitul Chetry, Kaliabor SDM Abhijit Borah, and Kaziranga National Park's Range Officer Niloy Baruah visited the scene to oversee the investigation. The authorities are working to identify the poacher and determine the extent of the threat posed by the group.
