Assam Police STF Dismantles Illegal SIM Card Network in “Operation Ghost SIM”

The Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) has executed a significant operation, dubbed “Operation Ghost SIM,” targeting illicit SIM cards linked to cybercrimes and anti-national activities.

Conducted over several months, the operation focused on disrupting networks that supplied these “ghost SIMs” to terrorist and fundamentalist groups.

During the crackdown, the STF arrested 13 suspects involved in anti-national and jihadist operations. Authorities seized approximately 1,300 SIM cards, along with numerous Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and other documents, many of which were registered under fake identities.

These ghost SIMs were allegedly used to facilitate various cybercrimes, including communications for illegal activities.

Acting on the Assam Police’s request, the Telecom Department deactivated 953 of the seized SIM cards, effectively shutting down the illicit communication channels to prevent further misuse.
