According to inputs received from Bangladesh, locals apprehended three members of an alleged international bike theft racket and handed them over to the Dholai police.

According to reports, a white Yamaha R15 motorcycle (registration number AS-11-AF-2987) belonging to Najim Uddin Laskar, a resident of Bongram village under the Dholai police station area, was stolen in the early hours of January 22 at around 4:04 am. The motorcycle was parked in front of Laskar’s house at Bhaga Bazar when it was stolen.

The entire theft was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the victim’s residence. The footage showed three youths with their faces covered stealing the bike and fleeing the spot.

On the same day, Najim Uddin complained to the Dholai police station. He also shared pictures of the stolen motorcycle on social media along with his mobile number, appealing for information. On Wednesday afternoon around 1 pm, a person from Bangladesh contacted him via WhatsApp after seeing the Facebook post and informed him that the motorcycle had reached Bangladesh. As proof, the person sent a photograph in which all three accused involved in the theft were visible.

Using the photograph as a lead, one of the accused was identified as Azmal Hussain alias Tippu, a resident of the Shyamacharanpur Gaon Panchayat area. With the help of local residents, Najim Uddin apprehended Azmal from his house. During interrogation, Azmal confessed to the crime. Based on his statement, two more accused, Kabil Hussain (21) and Sadir Ahmed (21) from Sribhumi district, were also detained.

During questioning, the three accused admitted that they had sold the stolen motorcycle for ₹50,000 to a man named Monir, a resident of Hatirghul under the Patharkandi police station area. They further revealed that Monir was responsible for smuggling the motorcycle into Bangladesh.

Later that night, all three accused were handed over to the Dholai police. Bike owner Najim Uddin Laskar filed a written FIR against them. Police have taken the accused into custody and are continuing interrogation, while necessary steps are being taken to recover the motorcycle.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread concern, with many questions being raised about how the motorcycle managed to cross the international border and reach Bangladesh.
