Assam: Suspected Bangladeshi national detained in Tamulpur

A suspected Bangladeshi national was detained from Kumarikata area in Assam’s Tamulpur district on Saturday after his activities were found to be suspicious.

A suspected Bangladeshi national was detained from the Kumarikata area in Assam’s Tamulpur district on Saturday.

The detained person has been identified as Saheb Ali.

On questioning the man, he reportedly introduced himself as a Bangladeshi national. However, officials have not yet made any statement regarding the apprehension of the man.

Members of the VishwaHindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal said that after they found the man, they informed the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

A man claimed to be a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad stated, “We were sitting near the shop when we noticed that he was wearing a Hindu garland around his neck, and along with it he was carrying a photo of a mosque in his locket. After that, we asked him his name. Based on his responses, we suspected that he was not from India. We informed the SSB, and after they arrived and questioned him, the detained person admitted that he is from Bangladesh.”

The suspected person was then handed over to the Kumarikata Police in Tamulpur for further investigation. 

However, till the filing of this report, no valid documents have been recovered from him.

Police said the man had been staying in a broken shop at Kumarikata market. 

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the man’s identity and nationality, police said.
