Assam: Tourists spot Rare Marbled Cat for the first time in Manas National Park!

In a groundbreaking moment for wildlife enthusiasts, a rare marbled cat has been spotted and captured on camera in Manas National Park. Wildlife photographers Kaushik Kakati and Luku Ranjan Nath successfully snapped the rare cat species, marking a significant milestone in the park's conservation efforts.

The rare sighting took place on October 6, 2025, during an evening jeep safari in the park's Bansbari range. Kaushik and Luku, accompanied by guide Shukleswar Nath and driver Akram Ali, had the rare opportunity to get a glimpse of a marbled cat and its cub on the main road. The team managed to capture stunning images of the majestic creature, a first for tourists in the park.

Marbled cats are predominantly found in the Eastern Himalayas and Southeast Asia, typically inhabiting altitudes of 2,500 feet above sea level. Although evidence of their presence in Manas National Park has been previously recorded through trap cameras, this marks the first time a tourist has captured the rare cat on camera.

The sighting has sent waves of excitement among nature lovers and conservationists, bringing a ray of hope for the national park's conservation efforts. The rare marbled cat sighting once again proves the rich biodiversity that the Park has to offer.
