Assam: Two Children Drown in Pond in Sribhumi's Patharkandi

Two children died after drowning in a pond in the Patharkandi area of Sribhumi in Assam on Friday.

As per reports, the incident took place in the West Jurabari area in Assam’s Sribhumi district.

The two young children lost their lives after falling into a pond.

The incident occurred when the children, accompanied by their mother, visited a neighbour’s house.

While the mother was engaged in conversation with the neighbour, the two children reportedly fell into a nearby pond and drowned.

The deceased children have been identified as Mamta Begum, aged five, and Sajan Ahmed, aged three.

Their parents are Sabbir Ahmed and Jahanara Begum.

Following the incident, local police and circle officers arrived at the scene to investigate.

The bodies of the children will be sent to a local hospital for post-mortem examination.

It has been reported that the children were playing with one another, and there were no adults nearby. They are suspected of having fallen into the pond while they were playing.

However, by the time adults came to know about the children falling into the pond, it was too late, and both drowned.

While they were initially taken to the hospital, the doctors declared them as brought dead, reports stated.
