Assam: Veer Lachit Sena leader Bikash Asom reportedly surrenders

Guwahati: Controversial Veer Lachit Sena leader Bikash Asom reportedly surrendered in front of the Dispur Police on Saturday in Guwahati, after he was wanted on charges of allegedly insulting women of Assam and cases related to extortion.

He was wanted by the police following multiple FIRs lodged across the state.

The arrest comes days after Bikash Asom, alias Bikash Baruah, posted a message on Facebook, announcing his intent to surrender while simultaneously watching the film Roi Roi Binale. 

Multiple complaints were filed against him in various police stations, accusing the leader of deliberately outraging Assamese cultural sentiments through derogatory remarks against women in Assam on a social media video.

Police sources said that Asom was taken into custody from the Dispur Police Station and is being questioned. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for promoting enmity and hurting regional sentiments.
