Assam: Widespread irregularities alleged at Barpeta Civil Hospital in Kalgachia

Utter chaos and disorder reportedly prevail at the Barpeta Civil Hospital located in Kalgachia, with serious allegations surfacing against a section of doctors and hospital staff.

According to patients and their attendants, doctors at the hospital often fail to attend duty on time, leading to severe disruption of medical services. The hospital’s diagnostic centre, too, is said to be in a near standstill condition, forcing patients to wait for hours to get their tests done.

Patients allege that negligence and indifference on the part of hospital staff have made the situation unbearable. Many locals have also accused some doctors of attending to patients in their private chambers during official duty hours, leaving government hospital services crippled.

Adding to the controversy, several attendants have levelled serious allegations of widespread monetary transactions in the name of caesarean (C-section) deliveries. It is alleged that certain gynaecologists collect money through middlemen while sitting inside the hospital’s diagnostic centre.

Disturbingly, these middlemen are reportedly using digital payment platforms such as Google Pay and PhonePe to collect the money.

As a result, the Barpeta Civil Hospital is allegedly operating amid utter chaos, where patients who refuse to pay are deprived of government-provided healthcare services.

Demanding immediate intervention, patients’ attendants and local residents have urged higher authorities to take strict action against those responsible and to restore proper functioning and accountability within the hospital.
