Assam: Youth arrested for involvement in DY365 Van arson during Baksa violence

In a significant development following the Baksa unrest, police have apprehended Md. Rasim Ali, a resident of Ahopa and son of Majnu Ali, for his alleged role in the violent incidents that unfolded on Wednesday.

Authorities confirmed that Rasim was identified through video footage placing him near the burning OB van belonging to DY365, a leading news channel, during the chaos outside Baksa jail. The visuals reportedly provided key evidence leading to his arrest.

During interrogation, Rasim admitted to being present at the scene but denied being a fan of singer Zubeen Garg, whose supporters were at the center of the protests. He claimed he had no emotional connection to the movement and attempted to distance himself from the genuine followers of the artist.

Investigators are now conducting a detailed probe into Rasim’s role in torching the vehicle and his possible coordination with others involved. The incident occurred while Shyamkanu and Siddharth were being transported, an event that sparked widespread tension in the area.

Police sources indicated that more arrests could follow as the inquiry progresses.
