According to reports, schools across Bongaigaon district were scheduled to conduct the Mathematics examination for Classes 9 and 10 today. However, a sudden notification from the Education Department directed schools to cancel the exam and reschedule it for October 8.

This is not the first time that exams have been disrupted. Earlier too, examinations were postponed and new schedules were issued. Yet again, students had to return home disappointed after arriving at schools prepared to write their papers.

The latest cancellation, however, did not stem from administrative or academic reasons. Instead, schools were instructed to host events related to the launch of the state government’s flagship welfare initiative, Orunodoi Scheme 3.0.

The move has triggered a wave of criticism from educators and intellectuals, who have accused the Education Department of disregarding students’ academic priorities. Many have questioned the department’s planning and expressed concern over the impact such frequent disruptions may have on students’ learning and morale.
