At Saint Mary’s English School in Panigaon, activists vandalised and tore down banners, posters, and decorations. School staff reported that the group created panic among students while damaging the festive displays.

The group then moved to commercial establishments, including Vishal Shopping Mall, Smart Point, V Mart, and other shops, destroying and burning Christmas merchandise such as gifts and decorations. Sources said a group of 15–20 activists was involved in the raids.

According to reports, the VHP and Bajrang Dal had issued warnings to shopkeepers three days prior, instructing them not to sell Christmas-related goods. Some shopkeepers reportedly ignored or were unaware of the warning, prompting the raids.

Speaking to the media, a Bajrang Dal member said:

“We have been visiting shops across the area and burning items being sold for Christmas. Despite repeated warnings, shopkeepers continued selling these goods. Christmas is not a festival of Hindus or Indian tradition, and therefore it should not be celebrated here.”

The activist added:

“We have observed children dressing up as Santa Claus during Christmas. Instead, they should participate in traditional religious festivities, such as performing in Bhaona during Raksha Bandhan, rather than adopting foreign customs. It is important to uphold and preserve our cultural roots.”

The raids have caused widespread disruption in Nalbari town, affecting both schools and commercial establishments.
