According to reports, Gogoi was called to the Demow police station for questioning, where he was detained without any formal complaint being filed against him. He was accompanied by his wife during the questioning. During his detention, Gogoi was forced to delete some contents from his Facebook account, including photos of Shyamkanu Mahanta with police officers and the Chief Minister.

After undergoing health checks, Gogoi was allowed to leave the police station on October 6, 2025. The incident has raised concerns about freedom of expression and the limits of police power.

Gogoi had been vocal on Facebook about justice for Zubeen Garg after his death, and his detention has sparked a debate about the role of social media in expressing dissent. The incident is likely to attract attention from civil society groups and activists, who may demand greater transparency and accountability from the authorities.
