Elderly woman blindfolded and assaulted in late-night robbery in Golaghat

Rangajan was shaken late last night after a dramatic and chilling robbery targeting an elderly couple living alone near the Rangajan petrol pump in Kathkotia. The incident unfolded when a group of robbers, taking advantage of the absence of any other family members, struck with precision and brutality.

According to reports, only elderly resident Lakshimai Baruah was at home when the gang broke in. The intruders, believed to be a group of three to four men, blindfolded and tied the woman’s hands before threatening her with a knife. They reportedly warned that her husband, Ganesh Baruah, would be killed if she resisted.

In a frightening sequence of events, the robbers snatched the gold earrings from the woman’s ears and assaulted her, landing blows on her face, head and multiple parts of her body. The attack was so sudden and calculated that neighbours remained unaware until the gang had left.

Golaghat Police rushed to the scene upon being informed and have launched a full-scale investigation. Officers are probing several angles, including whether the attackers had prior knowledge that the couple lived alone and if the crime was planned by someone familiar with the household’s routine.

The injured woman was immediately shifted to Golaghat Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital for treatment, while her husband, who was away during the incident, is reportedly traumatised by the attack.
