The iconic symbol of the world’s most celebrated sporting event will reach Guwahati on January 13, marking a major milestone for sports enthusiasts in the region.AdvertismentThe announcement was made on Wednesday by Assam’s Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, during a press conference held at the conference hall of Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Dispur. The minister shared key details of the upcoming FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour and highlighted the significance of the event for the state.According to Gorlosa, the trophy is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati at around 10 am on January 13. It will later be put on public display at Barsapara Stadium from 3 pm onwards, giving football fans a rare opportunity to see the coveted prize up close. The official inauguration ceremony will be conducted by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at 8:30 pm.The minister noted that this will be the first time the FIFA World Cup Trophy has visited Assam and that it comes as part of the trophy’s return to India after a gap of 12 years. Entry to the event will be free for all visitors, making it accessible to football lovers across the state.Adding to the celebrations, a cultural programme will also be organised at the venue.
