"The political temperature in Assam soared on Monday as a fiery exchange unfolded between Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi, followed by reactions from senior Congress leaders.Advertisment Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a blistering attack on Gogoi, accusing him of lacking political maturity and understanding of governance. “People know what the BJP government has given them after coming to power. When Gaurav Gogoi"s father, late Tarun Gogoi, was Chief Minister, the Congress gave only lungis and dhotis. But we have delivered Orunodoi, Mahila Udyamita, rice distribution and medical care,” CM Sarma said. Each joining has a leader"s name and an individual"s name. What kind of joining is this?” the Chief Minister remarked. Defending his government"s initiatives, CM Sarma said his administration was driven by courage, not politics. “Can any other politician say that those found in multiple marriages will face seven years in prison? Can anyone else carry out eviction drives across the state with such courage?” he said. Gaurav Gogoi Hits Back: "Even BJP Wants to Remove Himanta Biswa Sarma" Responding later in the day, APCC chief Gaurav Gogoi launched a counterattack, claiming that a plan is being hatched within the BJP itself to remove Himanta Biswa Sarma from the post of Chief Minister. “A strategy is being formulated within the BJP to oust Himanta Biswa Sarma from the Chief Minister"s chair. Even his own colleagues have stopped listening to him,” Gogoi said at a public meeting. He alleged that Sarma has become increasingly isolated within his own party and mocked the Chief Minister"s proximity to Karbi Anglong leader Tuliram Ronghang. “The day Himanta Biswa Sarma loses power, he will flee abroad with Tuliram Ronghang. He will have to run away to Singapore,” Gogoi said. Comparing the current administration to the previous government under Sarbananda Sonowal, Gogoi said that while Sonowal spoke of protecting “jati-mati” (community and land), Sarma"s tenure has been marked by “encroachment and plunder.” “During Sarbananda Sonowal"s time, we heard about protecting our people and land. But under Himanta Biswa Sarma, all we hear about is encroachment and loot,” Gogoi said, adding that “those who looted during the Congress regime are now in the BJP.” He further described the BJP government as “a government of syndicates and exploitation.” Also Read: Over 9,000 Join Congress Across Assam: Gaurav Gogoi Says “This Time, People Will Give the Fun Back” Congress Leaders Rally Behind Gogoi Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia came to Gogoi"s defence, saying the Chief Minister had failed to understand Gogoi"s political acumen. “Gaurav Gogoi may be younger in age, but the Chief Minister has grown old. He cannot comprehend what Gogoi is trying to achieve. It will take him time to understand Gogoi"s politics,” Saikia remarked. Former APCC president Bhupen Kumar Bora also hit back at Sarma, drawing parallels with mythological and biblical tales. “Just as King Kansa underestimated Lord Krishna, and as in the story of David and Goliath — we know who ultimately wins. Beneficiary schemes alone cannot secure electoral victory. Himanta Biswa Sarma has tarnished the dignity of the Chief Minister"s chair, and people have stopped believing his words,” Bora said. "
