In one case, a honey-trapping gang reportedly resurfaced in Guwahati, resulting in the arrest of Vijay Rajbongshi and Parthapratim Bora. The accused allegedly extorted ₹25,000 from a young man from Lal Ganesh locality.

According to the complaint filed at Dispur Police Station, the victim had attended a party at the accused’s residence in Six Mile, where he was allegedly encouraged to consume excessive alcohol. During the gathering, the accused reportedly coerced the victim into compromising situations, including nudity, and took photographs of him along with a young woman. The photographs were then allegedly used to demand money, with threats of exposure if the victim did not comply.

Acting on the complaint, the Guwahati City Police arrested Rajbongshi and Bora, who are now under investigation for their involvement in the honey-trapping and extortion case.

In a separate major operation, the Guwahati City Police, in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Police, arrested cybercriminals accused of defrauding a UP resident of several crore rupees through a fake financial company. The operation was part of a broader CID-led drive targeting individuals involved in producing and circulating sexual videos of minors.

The CID, under the supervision of the Additional Commissioner of Police of Cyber Crime, conducted coordinated raids across multiple districts, including Guwahati. A total of eight people have been arrested so far, with all facing charges under the POCSO Act for producing and disseminating sexual content of children on social media.

The police team have seized mobile phones and other electronic devices from the accused, which are believed to contain critical evidence. The arrested individuals include:

  • Dulu Baruah, Raju Dutta, and Priyam Handique from Golaghat

  • Hemanta Kalita from Kamrup Metropolitan District

  • Minhaz Khan from Palashbari, Kamrup District

  • Asaan Ali Ahmed from Baghbar, Barpeta

  • Dilwar Hussein from Patacharkuchi, Bajali

Another suspect from Biswanath district had been arrested earlier.

The CID and Guwahati City Police emphasized that the investigations are ongoing and further arrests are expected as the probe into the cyberfraud and child exploitation ring continues.
