"A major drug scam has come to light in Jagiroad, where several pharmacies have allegedly been selling expired medicines and narcotic substances in violation of government regulations. The widespread misuse of life-saving drugs has raised serious concerns about public health and safety in the region.Advertisment According to officials, multiple pharmacies in Jagiroad have been operating without valid licenses, openly selling banned narcotic tablets and cough syrups. These illegal practices were uncovered after the Drug Inspector received a confidential tip-off regarding the rampant violations. Acting on the information, a raid was conducted in Ghunusha, Jagiroad, under the leadership of Morigaon district Drug Inspector, Dr. Ishwar Hazarika. The team targeted an unlicensed pharmacy named Ma Pharmacy, which was operating without a signboard and run by its owner, Hekmat Ali. During the operation, authorities seized narcotic drugs, expired medicines, and a total of 45 different types of pharmaceutical items. The raid was conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and Jagiroad Police. Following the seizure, the police arrested pharmacy owner Hekmat Ali under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Local residents say this is not an isolated case, as many pharmacies in Jagiroad have long been accused of similar unlawful activities. With growing concerns over public health risks, citizens are now questioning when the Drug Inspector will take decisive action against all such violators in the area.
