Massive Fire Breaks Out at NFR Specialised Training Centre in Guwahati's Pandu; Thick Smoke Engulfs Area

Guwahati: A massive fire broke out inside the premises of the Specialised Training Centre (S&T) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in the Pandu area of Guwahati on Thursday afternoon, sending plumes of thick black smoke across the locality and triggering panic among residents of Pandu Colony No. 6 and surrounding areas.

According to preliminary information, the fire reportedly originated at a garbage dumping area inside the training centre campus before spreading rapidly to nearby sections of the compound. The blaze later intensified and spread across the premises, where specialised training rooms and critical equipment are located.

Officials said the situation worsened after railway pipelines and installations inside the campus caught fire, giving the blaze a more dangerous dimension.

Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot, and at least four fire tenders were deployed to control the fire. However, the flames could not be immediately brought under control, and firefighting operations continued for several hours.

Later, officials confirmed that the fire has been brought under control, and cooling operations are currently underway to prevent any flare-up.

No casualties have been reported so far. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and authorities have launched an inquiry to assess the extent of damage and determine the origin of the blaze.
