Miya Muslims have multiple Facebook accounts with Hindu names, claims Assam Chief Minister

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has levelled strong allegations against a section of the state’s Miya Muslim community, claiming that many individuals are creating fake Facebook accounts using Hindu names. The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing media, asserting that such online activities are being used to influence public opinion and spread anti-BJP narratives.

According to Sarma, “Every Miya Muslim has opened five to six Facebook accounts, and in each account they use a Hindu name.” He said individuals present themselves as “Rahul” or other common Hindu names to Assamese users, and alleged that in some cases people conceal their identity while forming relationships with Hindu girls. “Only after getting married it is discovered that the person is actually Rahul Ali,” the Chief Minister said.

Sarma went on to claim that some members of the community possess forged documents, including Aadhar cards and other identity papers. “Everything they have is fake/duplicate. From Aadhar to all other documents, they have fake documents to survive here in Assam,” he alleged. He further added that fake social media accounts are a “small issue” compared to these alleged document-related irregularities.

The Chief Minister linked several anti-BJP posts on Facebook to these alleged fake profiles. “All these anti-BJP things that are posted on Facebook are posted by fake accounts created by these Miyas,” Sarma said.
The statements have triggered debates across Assam’s political circles.
