Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that Rs 617.98 crore has been approved under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for 10 road development projects across Assam. In addition, Rs 129.74 crore has been sanctioned under the CRIF Setu Bandhan scheme for the construction of 16 new bridges aimed at strengthening connectivity in key regions.

Sharing the update on social media, the minister said the projects are expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, improve transport efficiency, and reduce travel time. The initiatives are also likely to support local trade, ensure smoother movement of goods and people, and contribute to the state’s overall socio-economic growth.

The announcement comes just ahead of another major infrastructure milestone. On February 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, which will connect Guwahati with North Guwahati and is expected to ease traffic movement while improving regional accessibility.
