"The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Tuesday night held a crucial meeting at the MLA hostel here to discuss concerns related to the SR (Special Revision) process and to review the party"s preparedness for the upcoming Assembly election in Assam.Advertisment The meeting was chaired by party president Maulana Badruddin Ajmal and attended by senior leaders. Party leaders said there is widespread confusion across several districts of Assam regarding the implementation of SR. “We discussed the shortcomings of the process and the confusion it has created among people. There are instances where SR-related activities are being carried out in violation of the guidelines,” leaders said, adding that the party would present its detailed stand on the issue on Wednesday. Election-related discussions The meeting also focused on election preparations. AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam said the party has received 65 applications from aspiring candidates so far. As several applicants claimed they were unaware of the earlier deadline, the party has decided to extend the application submission date till the 30th of this month. Expressing confidence ahead of the polls, AIUDF leaders said both the leadership and grassroots workers are highly motivated. “There is a charged political atmosphere in Hatikghat. While our vote share declined in 2024, we are confident it will see a substantial increase in the 2026 elections,” Islam said. The party further claimed that members of minority communities affected by eviction drives are coming forward to strengthen the organisation. Remarks on Akhil Gogoi Responding to questions about Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam said Gogoi"s influence in his constituency was limited. Referring to the panchayat elections, Islam claimed that Gogoi had only a small number of supporters and no ward members in his constituency. He further said that while people may gather to watch Gogoi"s public appearances, it does not necessarily translate into votes. Islam also alleged that leaders such as Akhil Gogoi, Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Gaurav Gogoi primarily contest elections in minority-dominated areas, reducing these regions to “electoral testing grounds.” Ajmal"s candidature On Badruddin Ajmal"s candidature, party leaders said Ajmal has not yet confirmed whether he will contest the elections. However, the party is pressing him to enter the fray from constituencies such as Binnakandi (Cachar), Nagaon, Dhubri or Barpeta. Leaders said as party president, Ajmal would take the final call on the seat he chooses. The AIUDF said further announcements on both the SR issue and electoral strategy would be made in the coming days. Also Read: Congress Will Never Ally with AIUDF, Says Gaurav Gogoi"
