Over 600 Congress Aspirants Apply for Tickets in Assam, Rajiv Bhawan Witnesses Massive Turnout

Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati witnessed an unprecedented rush on Monday as hundreds of Congress ticket aspirants thronged the party headquarters to submit their applications, severely hampering movement within the premises.

Several sitting MLAs and senior party leaders arrived along with large numbers of supporters, adding to the congestion.

According to figures available till 7 pm, around 300 aspirants submitted their applications in a single day. With Tuesday being the last date for submission, party leaders expect the turnout to remain high.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Treasurer Dr Hemahari Pegu said that more than 600 aspirants have already submitted their applications for various Assembly constituencies across the state.

Among those who filed their nomination papers on Monday were former minister Pranati Phukan, sitting MLAs Wazed Ali Choudhury, Pradip Sarkar and Abdul Baten Khandkar, former MLA Rozlina Tirkey, and senior Congress leaders including Benu Nath, Gopal Sharma, Utpal Gogoi, Deep Bayan, Ajay Gogoi and Manoranjan Buragohain.

Youth leaders such as Pallavi Saikia, Bidisha Neog and Palakshi Das also submitted their applications, along with Ratul Kalita, Ratul Patowary, Luit Kumar Barman, Kridip Barman, Tanzil Hussain, Mohsin Khan and Jeherul Islam, among others.

Party sources said there is a strong possibility that Rajiv Bhawan will again witness heavy footfall on the final day, with several senior leaders and hundreds of ticket aspirants expected to submit their applications before the deadline.
