Rehabilitation Drive Continues: Former BLT Cadres Receive ₹2 Lakh Each in Guwahati Event

The Government of Assam today distributed financial grants to 442 former members of the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) at a ceremony held at the International Auditorium of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati.

The programme was organised by the Home & Political Department, Government of Assam, and was attended by Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary and Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, along with senior officials from the department. Media personnel from print, electronic, and digital organisations were invited to cover the event.

442 Former Cadres Receive ₹2 Lakh Each

Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah announced that 442 former BLT members residing outside the BTC region received financial assistance, with ₹2 lakh granted to each beneficiary under the state’s continued efforts to implement the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord.

He stated that nearly 9,022 former members across five organisations have already returned to the mainstream since the accord. “The BJP-led NDA government has proved that peace and understanding can drive progress and prosperity in Assam,” he said.

Hagrama Mohilary Supports ST Status for Six Communities

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary reiterated his support for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the six communities of Assam, calling for constitutional amendments if required.

He recalled that during the Bodoland movement, Assam’s intellectuals and civil society urged dialogue instead of division.
“Assam never wanted to be divided, and we too chose discussion over separation. Today, we seek ST status for the six communities—without harming the rights of existing tribal groups,” Mohilary said.

He also thanked the state government for enabling the distribution of financial grants to former BLT members.

Orunodoi 3.0 to Be Launched in BTC

Mohilary announced that Orunodoi 3.0 will be launched in the BTC region on December 12, benefiting nearly 4 lakh women.

Minister Baruah added that with this expansion, the total number of Orunodoi beneficiaries across Assam will rise to 40 lakh.

Political Remarks

In a political statement, Mohilary said the NDA is poised to win 100 seats in the upcoming elections, claiming that Congress will not win any seats in the BTC region.
