Pabitra Bora, who served as a security guard at Zubeen Garg’s Kahilipara residence, has returned to his native village in Kaliabor, heartbroken by the loss of the artist he admired deeply.

A native of Goroimari in Kaliabor, Bora had the privilege of meeting Zubeen up close every day. “He was more than an employer to me,” Bora reportedly told friends before leaving for home. Every night, he would wait eagerly for Zubeen’s return, opening the gate with a warm greeting.

Zubeen, known for his kindness and humility, often checked in on Bora’s well-being, asking if he faced any financial troubles. Their bond went beyond the usual guard-employer relationship — it was one of trust and affection.
Bora had once confided in Zubeen about his dream of acting in films. The singer, ever encouraging, had promised to give him a chance in his next project. But that dream will now remain unfulfilled.

Since Zubeen’s passing, Bora has been inconsolable. Unable to continue at the Kahilipara residence, he quit his job and returned home. Friends say he often spends hours looking at Zubeen’s photographs, lost in memories of the moments they shared.

“I still hear his voice in my mind,” Bora is said to have told a relative. “He always treated me like family.”
For Bora, as for countless admirers across Assam, Zubeen Garg’s songs may continue to echo — but the silence of his absence is unbearable.
