“We Are Seeking Only Justice, Outcome must not Be technical errors,” Says Palmee Borthakur

Guwahati: In a recent social media post, Palmee Borthakur, sister of Zubeen Garg, has publicly questioned the handling of the investigation after alleging that a “procedural lapse” by the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) allowed accused Shyamkanu Mahanta to secure relief.

According to Palmee Borthakur, the SIT reportedly failed to follow due legal procedure while freezing a bank account linked to the case. They claimed that the mandatory rules governing such action were not properly observed, resulting in the accused being granted legal relief.

Raising serious questions over the development, Garg’s sister asked how such an error could occur despite the involvement of several experienced and senior officers in the probe. “After being supervised by so many capable officers, how could there be a procedural mistake? Why was such an error allowed to happen in such a sensitive case?" said a statement Borthakur posted on her Facebook account.

She further emphasised that they have been pursuing justice through peaceful and lawful means, placing their trust in the system. However, they expressed disappointment that instead of justice, what has surfaced so far is what they described as a “procedural lapse."

“We are seeking only justice. The outcome must be justice and not technical errors,” the social media post added, urging authorities to ensure that all aspects of the case are handled correctly as they advance.

She further referred to the incident of September 19, 2025, which they said had “drained all colours” from their lives. They appealed to the investigating agencies and the judiciary to ensure that the accused does not escape punishment on any grounds.

The case, which has drawn public attention due to its sensitive nature, continues to be closely watched, with calls for accountability and strict adherence to legal procedures in the ongoing investigation.
