Who Are the 15 Bangladeshis Being Deported from Assam’s Nagaon District?

In a significant administrative action, the Nagaon district authorities in Assam have ordered the deportation of 15 Bangladeshi nationals who were identified as illegal foreigners by the Nagaon District Foreigners’ Tribunal.

The individuals are currently lodged at the Matia Detention Camp in Assam’s Goalpara district, official sources confirmed.

According to the expulsion order, the deportation process is scheduled to be carried out within 24 hours, and the Border Security Force (BSF) is expected to hand over the detained individuals to Bangladeshi authorities across the India–Bangladesh international border late tonight.

The deportation directive was issued by Nagaon District Commissioner Devasish Sharma following the tribunal’s confirmation of their foreign nationality and completion of all legal formalities required under the Foreigners Act. The order authorises the district administration and security agencies to ensure their removal from Indian territory without delay.

The individuals identified for deportation include Jahura Khatoon (48) of Kandhulimari in Dhing, Abdul Aziz (45) from Hedayat Nagar in Nagaon town, Aheda Khatoon (46) of Bagariguri under Juria, Ajufa Khatoon (45) from Garematikhowa in Rupohihat, and Hussein Ali (46) of Dighaliati in Raha. Others include Fazila Khatoon (55) of Hatijuwa under Jajori, Anura Begum (55) from Lengteng in Samaguri, Asha Khatoon (59) of Salbari in Samaguri, Md. Nazrul Islam (55) of Chaparmukh town in Raha, and Rahim Seikh (46) from Dighaliati in Raha.

The list further includes Burek Ali (60) of Dighaliati, Idris Ali (42) of Raha town, Rustam Ali (60) from Hatigaon Bagan in Kaliabor, Anowar Khan (73) of Garubandha in Jakhalabandha, and Taher Ali (58) of Goroimari under Uluani.

District officials stated that all 15 individuals were declared foreigners after due legal process and were subsequently transferred to the Matia Detention Camp pending deportation. Security has been tightened, and coordination between the district administration, police, and the BSF is underway to ensure smooth execution of the deportation process.

The development has drawn attention amid heightened focus on the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants in Assam, particularly in districts bordering Bangladesh.
