"Administrative activities at the Barpeta Deputy Commissioner"s Office came to a complete standstill on Wednesday after employees launched an indefinite strike early in the morning. The protest was carried out within the office premises, with staff members abstaining from all official duties.Advertisment The strike has been organised with the support of the All Assam District Administration Employees" Association. Employees have been raising several long-pending demands, the most prominent being the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in place of the current National Pension System (NPS). As part of their ongoing statewide movement, the administrative staff in Barpeta joined the agitation today, intensifying pressure on the government to address their concerns. Representatives of the NPS workers warned that if the government fails to respond, they will escalate their protest in December with a large-scale agitation in Guwahati. Meanwhile, employees of the Barpeta DC Office submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the Deputy Commissioner, urging the government to replace NPS with OPS and resolve their other pending issues at the earliest. With the strike bringing all work at the DC office to a halt, public services in the district are expected to be affected until the deadlock is resolved.
