Subedar Review: A Gritty Action Thriller With Powerful Performances

Veteran Actor Anil Kapoor returns with an action-packed film, Subedar, directed by Suresh Triveni. The movie was released on Amazon Prime Video on March 5. It also stars Radhika Madan, Mona Singh, Khushbu Sundar, Aditya Rawal, Saurabh Shukla and Faisal Malik in important roles. 

The story may feel familiar for an action film, but strong acting and intense scenes make it worth watching on OTT.

Story of the film

The narrative unfolds in a small town plagued by illegal sand mining. Babli Didi (Mona Singh) runs this illegal business even though she is in jail under Section 302 of the IPC. Her stepbrother, Prince (Aditya Rawal) and his partner, Safety (Faisal Malik), manage the work outside. People in the town are angry because 15 children have died in the past year due to illegal mining.

Meanwhile, Arjun Maurya, played by Anil Kapoor, is a retired army officer who returns to his hometown after the death of his wife, Sudha (Khushboo Sundar). Now his main focus is taking care of his daughter, Shyama (Radhika Madan). Arjun says he can face bullets but cannot tolerate an insult. However, his daughter Shyama is upset with him because he was not there when her mother needed him.

The story changes when Arjun and Prince get into an argument over car parking. This small fight slowly turns into a serious conflict between them.

At the same time, Babli is trying to get bail from jail. Shyama is also dealing with her own problem. A boy from her college keeps harassing her by sending obscene videos. She decides to handle the situation on her own without telling her father. The film then moves towards a big clash between Arjun and Prince.

Cast Performances

Anil Kapoor performs well as the strong but emotional former Subedar. He is impressive in both action scenes and emotional moments.

However, Radhika Madan stands out the most. As Shyama, she shows courage and strength. When a boy from her college sends her obscene videos, she bravely confronts him. Her performance, especially in the pre-climax scene, is very powerful.

Mona Singh as Babli and Saurabh Shukla as Prabhakar also do a good job. Aditya Rawal surprises everyone as the villain Prince. His performance makes the character truly hateful, which makes him a strong antagonist.

More about film 

The film has strong performances, action, and emotional moments that keep viewers interested. Even though it has many subplots, this 2-hour-25-minute thriller is still an engaging watch.
