Trump Announces Permanent Halt to Immigration from Developing Nations Following Fatal Shooting Near White House

Washington, D.C.: President Donald Trump declared a permanent suspension of all immigration from what he described as “Third World Countries,” citing the need for the United States to “fully recover” from what he called decades of unsustainable migration policies.

The dramatic announcement, posted on Truth Social, came just days after a deadly shooting involving an Afghan national that left one National Guard soldier dead and another critically wounded near the White House.

In his statement, Trump vowed to terminate millions of admissions he attributed to the Biden administration, end all federal benefits to non-citizens, and initiate large-scale deportations of individuals deemed security risks, public charges, or “non-compatible with Western Civilisation.” He also pledged to pursue denaturalisation of migrants who “undermine domestic tranquillity” and to reverse what he called an “illegal Autopen approval process” used under the previous administration.

The president framed the measures as essential to reducing crime, easing pressure on housing, schools, hospitals, and public finances, and restoring what he described as pre-1965 levels of social stability. “Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation,” Trump wrote, concluding his Thanksgiving message with a warning to those he accused of hating or harming the country: “You won’t be here for long.”

The policy shift follows Tuesday’s shooting attack on National Guard troops, Sarah Beckstrom, 20, of West Virginia, and Andrew Wolfe, 24, who were on duty blocks from the White House. Beckstrom succumbed to her injuries on Thursday; Wolfe remains in critical condition. The suspect, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who entered the United States after the 2021 U.S. military withdrawal, was taken into custody. Investigators have not yet disclosed a motive.

Hours after the suspect’s identity was confirmed, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services indefinitely suspended all pending immigration applications from Afghan nationals, stating that “the protection and safety of the American people remains our singular focus.”

Trump also criticised the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation, reposting images of Afghans being airlifted on U.S. military aircraft and claiming hundreds of thousands entered the country “totally unvetted and unchecked.” He alleged that the current foreign-born population exceeds 53 million, many arriving from “failed nations, prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels,” and accused migrants of imposing high costs on American taxpayers.
