The clashes reportedly erupted following protests against the swearing-in of Manipur’s newly appointed Deputy Chief Ministers, Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho.According to officials, the situation initially turned tense at the Tuibong Main Market when a large group of youths attempted to push security perso|nnel back towards their camps. The confrontation later escalated near the Tuibong Forest Gate, where protesters allegedly resorted to stone-pelting, forcing security forces to temporarily retreat from the area.Security personnel later regrouped and used teargas shells to disperse the crowd. Although the protesters initially scattered, they regrouped multiple times and renewed their attacks, prolonging the standoff through the night.Officials said intermittent teargas shelling continued as the situation remained volatile. Around 11 pm, security forces also carried out a lathi charge in an attempt to bring the situation under control. However, protesters once again regrouped and continued their aggressive actions.Authorities believe the unrest was fueled by resentment among local youths over reports that three Kuki-Zomi MLAs were likely to be inducted into the Manipur government. While Nemcha Kipgen has already taken oath as Deputy Chief Minister, LM Khaute and Ngursanglur are reportedly expected to be sworn in soon.Additional security forces have been deployed in the area, and authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation. The shutdown remains in force as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order. Also Read: 40 Eminent Citizens Seek Case Against Assam CM Over Alleged 'Hate Speech'AdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
