Manipur: Security Forces Arrest Two Militants, Recover Extorted Funds and Arms

A joint operation by central security forces and Manipur police led to the arrest of two individuals linked to banned valley-based militant groups.

Officials said that they succeeded in seizing extorted money, a two-wheeler, and two mobile phones.

In the first operation, Naorem Abinash Singh (20), a member of the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, was apprehended at his home in Kakching Sumak Leikai, Naodam Bazar, Kakching District.

Singh had allegedly extorted Rs 5,000 from a local businessman in the Kakching area. Security forces recovered a mobile phone, a sling bag, and a wallet from his possession.

In a separate operation, Salam Kipjen Singh (45), a cadre of the prohibited People’s Liberation Army, was detained in the Tronglaobi area under the Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur District. The security team seized a two-wheeler and a mobile phone during his arrest.

Additionally, police reported progress in the investigation of the September 19 ambush on 33 Assam Rifles in Nambol Sabal Leikai, Bishnupur District.

One primary suspect was arrested, and the weapons and ammunition used in the attack were recovered. Addressing media speculation, the police clarified that a previously released photograph of the suspect with the seized arms was not altered or photoshopped.

To ensure transparency, they have released the photograph again, alongside the recovered items.
