Man’s Body Recovered from Flooded Imphal River Amid Heavy Rains in Manipur

Officials recovered the body of an unidentified man from the swollen Imphal River in Imphal West district on Sunday, as heavy monsoon rains continue to cause flooding across Manipur.

Mayang Imphal police got help from locals to pull the body from the river near the Mayang Imphal Maibam Bridge at about 9:30 AM. The Imphal River was high after four days of heavy rain, making the recovery difficult.

Volunteers from the community helped the police.

A team of Forensic Science experts promptly arrived at the scene to conduct an inquest.

The body was later transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) mortuary in Imphal for identification and post-mortem examination.

Police have issued an appeal to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased to aid their investigation. The body remains at the RIMS mortuary pending further verification.

The ongoing heavy rains have caused rivers, rivulets, and streams across the state to swell.
