BJP Aiming for 20-40 Seats in 2028 Meghalaya Elections: Hek

BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek expressed strong optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2028 Meghalaya Assembly elections, projecting a potential win of 20 to 40 seats.

He stated that the party’s success hinges not only on its organisational strength but also on the quality of its candidates. This comes after earlier claims by the party that it could secure at least 25 seats in the upcoming polls.

Addressing concerns about recent attacks on Christians by right-wing groups across India, Hek firmly distanced the BJP from such incidents, asserting that the party has no involvement. He clarified that these acts were perpetrated by unrelated groups and emphasised that the BJP does not engage in or condone violence against Christians or any other community, including Hindus and Muslims.

On the issue of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) salary crisis, Hek supported Tura MDC Bernard Marak’s decision to seek assistance from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating there was no issue in bypassing the state BJP leadership to address the matter.

Earlier, Bernard N Marak wrote to Assam Chief Minister and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking urgent intervention in the prolonged salary crisis plaguing the GHADC.
