The remarks follow Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s decision to overhaul the Cabinet, which resulted in the exclusion of several senior ministers.

Sangma labelled the reshuffle as “peculiar” and questioned the inclusion of multiple members from a single family, calling it a sign of authoritarianism.

He expressed disappointment over the removal of experienced legislators like Ampareen Lyngdoh and Comingone Ymbon, both seasoned MLAs with four to five terms, in favour of less experienced leaders. “I had hoped to see Ronnie V Lyngdoh and Marthon Sangma inducted into the Cabinet,” he stated.

The Tura MP further challenged the state government’s rationale for sidelining senior leaders, questioning whether the move served the state’s interests or was driven by personal motives.
