At Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, a foreign passenger climbed onto an IndiGo check-in counter in frustration after her flight was abruptly cancelled. Viral video footage captured her demanding food, water and clear re-booking information while distraught ground staff pleaded with her to come down.

In Ahmedabad, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport descended into hours-long chaos in the early hours of Saturday. Airport authorities confirmed that between midnight and 6 a.m., seven arriving flights and twelve departing IndiGo services were scrapped, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded in endless queues with little communication from the airline.

Similar scenes of unrest were reported from Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata as travellers vented their fury over last-minute cancellations, missed connections and inadequate assistance.

The nationwide meltdown persisted despite the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announcing late Friday that it has “put in abeyance with immediate effect” the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms that triggered the current crew shortage crisis at IndiGo.

Travellers took to social media to share videos of overflowing terminals, crying children and heated arguments with airline staff, with many accusing IndiGo of abandoning passengers during the busy December travel season. Airlines and airports have advised passengers to check flight status before heading to the terminal, as the disruption shows no immediate signs of ending.
