Among them was Janata Dal (United) leader Vibha Devi Yadav, a former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) member and wife of jailed former legislator Raj Ballabh Yadav.

Despite being a two-term MLA, Vibha Devi momentarily struggled while reading out her oath. A video circulating widely on social media shows her hesitating over the text and seeking assistance from fellow JDU legislator Manorama Devi, while other members watched silently.

Vibha Devi, 59, earlier won the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections as an RJD candidate from Nawada. Ahead of the 2025 polls, she switched to the JDU and was again fielded from the same constituency. Declaring assets worth ₹31 crore — including ₹17.4 crore in movable assets and ₹13.6 crore in immovable property — she defeated RJD’s Kaushal Yadav this year to retain the seat.

She secured 87,423 votes (43.39%), while Kaushal Yadav received 59,829 votes (29.69%). Vibha Devi had also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Nawada on an RJD ticket but was defeated by LJP leader Chandan Singh.

The opening session saw several MLAs being sworn in by Pro-tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the MLA from Tarapur, was the first to take the oath, followed by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who has retained the Lakhisarai seat for the fourth consecutive term.
