In a shocking development, senior BJP leader Rajen Gohain has resigned from the party, citing dissatisfaction with the party's leadership and policies. Gohain, who served as Minister of State for Railways from 2016 to 2019, called the BJP the "biggest enemy of the Assamese people,"accusing the party leadership of betraying the trust of the people and ignoring long-time workers. He also targeted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming that he has "failed in every aspect."

The former Union Minister alleged that even beneficiaries of the state's flagship Orunodoi scheme have turned against the BJP, saying "not a single beneficiary will vote for the party." He also claimed that the party has lost support across diverse sections of society, including fans of popular singer Zubeen Garg, who he claimed will not vote for the BJP this time.

Gohain criticized the party's internal functioning, stating that those who came from other parties treat long-time workers and leaders with disrespect. "No one in the party protects the old leaders and workers," he alleged. His disappointment stems from being denied a ticket in the last election, despite being a veteran leader.

Experts believe that Gohain might join a local party to represent the voice of the people. His resignation and scathing attack on the BJP have sent shockwaves through the state, and his future plans will be closely watched.
It’s noteworthy that Dr. Dibyajyoti Likhak, Vice President of Jorhat District BJP, has resigned from his position as Vice President and also from the party's primary membership. Although he cited personal reasons for his resignation, sources suggest that he was dissatisfied with the party's functioning and activities, which led to his decision.
