From Kamakhya’s blessings to grassroots power: Nitin Nabin reaffirms BJP’s Northeast vision

BJP National Working President Nitin Nabin on Friday recalled his long association with Assam and underscored the party’s commitment to development, cultural preservation, and grassroots outreach in the state and the wider Northeast.

Addressing party workers and district-level leaders, Nabin said he first came to Assam in 2009 as a Yuva Morcha leader, when Dilip Saikia was serving as the organisation’s president. He noted that he has returned at a time when Saikia is now the state BJP president, adding that the blessings of Maa Kamakhya have played a significant role in the party’s journey.

Highlighting former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision, Nabin said Vajpayee believed that India’s overall development was impossible without the development of the Northeast. According to him, that vision is now being realised, with Assam and other northeastern states progressing on par with more developed regions of the country.

Criticising the previous Congress regimes, Nabin alleged that people had lost their land rights during that period, which prompted them to embrace the BJP as an alternative. He also claimed that funds sent from Delhi earlier failed to reach the common people and instead ended up in the wrong hands. “Those days are over,” he said, asserting that leaders like Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal now ensure that Assam receives its rightful share from the Centre.

Nabin praised Assam’s cultural diversity and said the state is advancing on the path of development without harming nature or indigenous communities. He stressed that the BJP works with a “24×7 commitment” and approaches every election with seriousness, focusing not merely on winning polls but on resolving people’s problems.

Calling for a strong organisational push, Nabin said the party would work for every NDA seat and emphasised the importance of booth-level victories in securing overall electoral success. Referring to allegations of vote theft made against the BJP in Bihar, he said the public had already responded through their mandate.

He urged party workers to ensure that government welfare schemes reach the grassroots, noting that people judge governments based on how effectively they address local and state-level issues. Citing healthcare reforms, he said that while people earlier had to sell land to afford medical treatment, schemes like Ayushman Bharat have now made healthcare accessible to the poor.

Concluding his address, Nabin appealed to party workers to cooperate in forming BJP governments across Assam and the Northeast, remarking that politics is not a short sprint but a long journey that rewards sincere and sustained work.
