Renowned folk singer Maithili Thakur joins BJP ahead of Bihar elections

Renowned folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Patna, Bihar, in a strategic move that is likely to shake up the state's assembly elections. With her soulful renditions of Mithila's traditional songs and a reputation for cultural excellence, Thakur's inclusion is expected to boost the party's appeal among young voters and the Maithil community.

Thakur's entry into politics comes as the BJP seeks to strengthen its cultural appeal in the region, and she is likely to contest from the Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga, a key seat in the Mithilanchal region. The seat is currently held by BJP's Mishrilal Yadav, whose ticket might be dropped.

The BJP leadership is confident of a significant majority, claiming defections from opposition ranks, with over a dozen opposition MLAs potentially joining the party soon. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has outlined its seat-sharing strategy, with the BJP and JDU contesting 101 seats each, while allies like LJP and others share the remaining.

Thakur's decision to join politics stems from her desire to serve Bihar and promote its rich cultural heritage. She believes that politics provides her an opportunity to carry forward her mission of preserving and promoting the state's traditional art and culture.

With elections scheduled for November 6 and 11, and results to be declared on November 14, Thakur's inclusion is likely to collect support for the BJP in the upcoming elections.
