The Men in Blue are reeling from a humiliating loss of 76 runs in their first super eight match against South Africa where a stringent half-century by David Miller and a four-wicket loot by Marco Jansen had brought about the batting and bowling frailty of India to light. As the tournament reaches a decisive part the hosts will be pressured to perform well in every aspect and ensure that they will not be eliminated during this campaign.

On the contrary, Zimbabwe also recorded a poor beginning to their Super eight campaign, suffering a 107-run defeat against West Indies. They have come against a difficult task and are due to play with the hosts of the tournament, although in the past they have demonstrated the talent of putting in a good show that will be referred to as one of the surprise packages of the tournament.

Chennai pitch is usually deemed as good to batters and scores of about 170-180 can be reached. But it is also believed that spinners will have a major role since the surface will be able to provide support, provided that bowlers continue keeping straight lines and create a pressure in the middle overs.

India has a good history with Zimbabwe in T20 matches as the nation has won 10 out of the 13 matches ever since their maiden encounter in 2010. The last time the two teams faced off against each other was in July of 2024.

One of the players that should be followed is opener Ishan Kishan, who will bring in a lot of importance to India in terms of batting. He has played five matches scoring 176 runs at a scorching strike rate of 193.41 that proved essential in establishing a competitive figure.

Chief bowling weapon of India is likely to be mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. The spinner has already taken 10 wickets in five games with an impressive average of 10.90. His four overs may prove essential in disrupting the partnership between two players and controlling the scoring rate.
