RCB Ready to Defend Crown as IPL 2026 Kicks Off on March 28

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 will officially start on March 28, 2026, as Star Sports, which is the official broadcaster, confirmed on Sunday. This announcement preceded the ICC Men T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, which has since then generated a lot of excitement among the cricket enthusiasts.

RCB Returns as Defending Champs

The defending champions in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are now expected to come out to the field with their eyes on the repeat glory. Last year, the Bengaluru-based franchise won the IPL final at Ahmedabad by a dramatic six-run margin over Punjab Kings, becoming champions for the first time. As the IPL 2026 approaches, RCB hopes to build on that and make a big statement when they become the champions again before their ardent home fans.

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium: Campaign Centre of RCB

The iconic venue of RCB, M. Chinnaswamy stadium will be at centre stage in the 2026 season. According to Santosh Menon, the Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the stadium will host five home matches of RCB, one play-off, and the final of the IPL 2026.

Cricket to Bengaluru Back after 2025 Tragedy

The 2026 season also marks the return of cricket to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium after it was closed following the deadly stampede during RCB's 2025 IPL title celebrations, which took the life of 11 people and injured many others. The administration had since then temporarily halted matches while reviewing infrastructure and implementing safety upgrades.

Due to elaborate planning and authorizations, the stadium is currently fully equipped to welcome players and fans without any dangers and enable RCB supporters to see the highest-quality cricket on the home soil.

Reaching further: RCB in Raipur

Although Bengaluru will be the venue, where majority of the matches of the franchise will be played, two matches will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium at Raipur, Chattisgarh. The action will provide the fans in central India with an opportunity to live through the RCB brand of the game, expanding its reach and fan base.

Though the IPL 2026 starting date is fixed, the full fixtures with the opening match, the detailed venue allocation and the play-offs are waiting to be announced. The fans are anxious to know who will play RCB in the opening match of the season and the progress of the campaign.
