Sooryavanshi’s Blitz, Late Cameo Power India to Record 411/9 in U-19 WC Final

India posted a record-breaking 411/9 against England in the ICC Under-19 World Cup final at Harare, riding on a sensational knock by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a late flourish from Kanishk Chouhan.

The total — the highest ever in an Under-19 World Cup final and in the tournament’s knockout history — came despite a brief middle-order wobble after Sooryavanshi’s departure. England’s last-minute lapse, with the bowler taking too long to start the 49th over, handed India a crucial fielding restriction advantage, which they capitalised on with aggressive hitting.

Kanishk Chouhan’s brisk 37 off just 20 balls ensured India finished strongly, maintaining a scoring rate close to eight runs an over and pushing the total beyond the 400 mark.

The innings, however, was defined by 14-year-old Sooryavanshi, whose explosive 175 off 80 balls dismantled the England attack. His knock, packed with towering sixes and crisp boundaries, left England struggling for answers and set the tone for India’s dominance. He looked on course for a historic double century — which would have been the first in an Under-19 World Cup — but fell 25 runs short.

Sooryavanshi had earlier scripted history with a blistering 55-ball century, the fastest ever in an Under-19 World Cup final, and went on to become the first batter to cross 150 in a summit clash. His innings drew comparisons from commentators to some of the most iconic performances in limited-overs cricket.

Captain Ayush Mhatre provided solid support with a composed 53 off 51 balls, sharing a 142-run partnership with Sooryavanshi for the second wicket after India lost Aaron George early for 9. The platform laid by the duo allowed India to maintain momentum even as wickets fell later in the innings.

The 411-run effort also eclipsed India’s own previous record from the 2016 edition, marking the highest total in the history of the Under-19 World Cup knockouts. Sooryavanshi’s tournament tally has now placed him among the top three Indian run-scorers in a single U-19 World Cup campaign, behind only Sarfaraz Khan and Shikhar Dhawan.
